Observatory Logbook
Welcome to the official logbook of the Celestial Cartography Guild's primary observatory. Herein lie records of our ongoing celestial observations, discoveries, and operational notes.
Deep Sky Observations
NGC 7000 (North America Nebula) - Color Spectrum Analysis
Detailed analysis of the emission nebula's hydrogen-alpha and oxygen-III line strengths. Initial findings suggest a higher concentration of ionized helium than previously modelled. Further spectral data required for confirmation.
M82 (Cigar Galaxy) - Supernova Candidate SN 2023ixc
Confirmation of a Type Ia supernova candidate detected in the northern arm of M82. Light curve analysis initiated. Spectroscopic confirmation pending.
Planetary Surveys
Jupiter - Great Red Spot Vortex Stability
Continuous monitoring of the Great Red Spot. No significant changes in vortex structure or rotation speed observed over the past 48-hour period. Atmospheric pressure readings remain nominal.
Stellar Phenomena
Proxima Centauri - Flare Activity Monitoring
Recorded a moderate X-class solar flare originating from Proxima Centauri. Duration of 5 minutes. Radio emissions at 2.4 GHz peaked at 150 sfu. No significant impact on observed exoplanet transits.
Anomalous Readings
Unidentified Signal Source - Sector 47-Gamma
A brief, highly directional radio burst detected at 1.4 GHz. Source location localized to Sector 47-Gamma, a region previously catalogued as empty. Signal characteristics do not match known astrophysical phenomena. Further investigation scheduled.
Instrument Calibration
Spectrograph MK-III - Redundant Calibration Sequence
Routine daily calibration of the MK-III spectrograph. Wavelength calibration confirmed to within 0.01 Angstroms. Detector efficiency readings are within expected parameters.
